From the moment i read the first web novel there was no going back, reading a few titles co-coherently since unlike TV anime’s, novels don’t just end after a set number of episodes so it gives me something else to look forward to weekly. That said after a while I’ve been able to spot some hidden gems as well as some not so good titles that were nothing but a waste of time (* Main character does something cool, authors uses the next 10 chapters for everyone and their cats POV of the main character doing something cool *achhooooooummm sorry I’ve been re-incarnated. )
Stabbed by a robber on the run after pushing his coworker and his coworker’s new fiance out of the way. As he lays dying, bleeding on the ground, he hears a voice. This voice is strange and interprets his dying regret of being a virgin by giving him the [Great Sage] unique skill! Is he being made fun of !?!
This was honestly the first and still the best web novel i have ever read, found it while after getting to the last update of the manga which only had around 12 chapters at the time, The Webnovel has around 207 chapters at the moment so it should keep you busy for a while. Mikami Satoru is a Japanese teen who gets stabbed whilst saving his friend from his attacker, on the verge of death he hears the voice of the world which converts his deathbed ramblings into a will of sorts and finds himself reincarnated as a slime and just happens to befriend a dragon. Anymore would spoil the story so u just have to read the rest for yourselves.
High school student Misumi Makoto is called into a fantasy world, in order to be a hero. However, powerful others in this world aren’t as thrilled to have him there, and kick him to the edge of the world. Tsukuyomi declares that Makoto is free to find his own way after Makoto is abandoned by the other Goddess.
So a lazy goddess kidnaps Misumi Makoto from his world on a whim, he didn’t die or anything, truck-chan doesn’t even pay him a visit. Arriving in a new world Misumi finds himself half hazardously dropped into a free fall into the badlands i.e the outskirts of civilization where monsters and stuff live. A bishoujou goddess Tsukuyomi rescues him from certain death and gives Misumi some of his/her (i honestly cant tell) power to enable him to survive in the world. The only problem lies in just how much power was given to Misumi.
Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They’re treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku’s wet dream quickly turns into Hajime’s nightmare? While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime’s job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith’s level of strength?
Well this got dark pretty quick, Its basically your everyday summoning story with a twist that everyone seems to be doing this days (Shield hero i’m looking at you). Hajime Nagumo a summoned hero with the Unique skill “Synegist”) literally finds himself in a pit of despair after he is betrayed by one of his classmates who leaves him for dead. Unknown to the world Hajime miraculously survives and crawls his way back defeating everything in his path fueled by rage until he comes across a certain girl who sets him back on the right track. For her he is willing to fight the world be it Nobles, Demon lords, Angels and even his former classmates. But for some reason his harem increases as more girls join the fray.
Five people summoned to another world to battle the demon lord who threatens that world. However, there were only supposed to be four heroes that were summoned; the other was an innocent bystander. What will the innocent bystander do next?
So this one starts off like a typical other world summoning, the king of a fantasy world summons 5 heroes to defend their kingdom against demons, but it turns out the there were only supposed to be 4 hero’s. The Fifth summoned person Hiiro Nakamura just happened to be nearby and just happened to be dragged into the summoning as well. Being the Logical bastard that he is, Hiiro isn’t gungho over getting summoned into a fantasy world, Well since he was there anyways Hiiro decides to explore the world in search of books and good food (its shokugeki no soma all over again) with help from his omnipotent unique skill “Word Magic”and along the way obtains the title of “The god who brings down Little girls”, Surely Hiiro is not a lolicon..or is he?
Suzuki/Satou, an adult programmer, suddenly notices that he’s been thrown into a different world while wearing a casual clothes at level 1. He gained high levels and treasures after using the 3 times use-disposable-magic, Meteor Shower, once. After that he intends to do different world “sightseeing tours”?. He meets 3 beast girls, beautiful purple and black haired sisters, and an eccentric blonde haired elf girl along with various people during his trip. Although there are occasional fighting with demons and demon lords and gods.
This one is utterly ridiculous if u look at it too critically, to summarize just how ridiculous it is here a conversation that could totally take place in their universe.
(Death March in a nutshell)
gods: *tries to kill everyone.
Pochi: Are u bad guys nano desu?
gods: Shit its the irregulars Loli,Olympus has fallen i repeat Olympus has fallen everyone RUNNNNNNNNNN!!!
Arisa: Umu..Masuta can I use the void battleship you gave me for my birthday?
Pochi: Overkill no desu
Satou: sure, just be back in time for dinner.
Gods: Mommy (*ﾟｰﾟ)v
(Common sense chan: yes is this the author, yeah, I QUIT )
This is the story of a man, who, based on the memories and the experiences of his previous life, became a teacher who travels through the world with his students.
^ yup that’s basically it, ultra spy gets reincarnated as a baby into a fantasy world but keep memories from his past life. For some reason in a world of magic his attribute is of the weakest category “colorless magic” rendering him incapable of using the other elements of fire, wind e.t.c. As a result there are the usual jackass nobles but haha u thought that was going to stop him from making machine guns, grenades and sub orbital millitary satellites well think again.
Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic Otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!
Its remarkably similar to Arifureta and Konjiki no wordmaster upper up in the list. Naofumi gets summons to another world but turns out to be the weakest among the heroes who were gifted with Legendary weapons upon their arrival. Due to his perceived weakness he gets deceived by the kingdom and is a pushed aside. His only weapon being a Legendary shield that did not allow him to equip other weapons he is remarkably weak offensive wise, to overcome this buys a female tanuki slave who grows to like him.
Shin reincarnated as a baby was brought up by the Magi, who had retired to a secular place, as his own grandson. With the memories of his past life, he absorbed the Magi’s craft and grew to be able to develop his own magic. Then, the grandfather told him he has to become independent when he reaches the age of 15. “Ah, I forgot to teach him common sense.” The grandson who has grown beyond the level of normal people, lacked common sense; the common sense of the world. So to learn how to socialize, he goes to Earlshide Kingdom City to be admitted to Earlshide Advanced Magic Academy.
Corrupt Noble: Commoner bow before i shoot you with my shiny fireball.
Shin: AWwww that’s cute, i have an atomic bomb though, wanna see who wins?
Tagami Yusuke, led by a mysterious voice, is summoned to another world, “Kaltsio”. He was just a young video-game lover, but Fate decided to make him become the “Evil God of Calamity” of this world, obtaining the ability to create and customize everything, Customize Creation.
I’m currently reading this at the moment but so far its been good, On one hand we have the typical jackass nobles but this time they are endowed with magic powers bestowed by the four gods of fire, water, wind and earth and oppress the powerless commoners who are subjected to their cruel rule. To rectify this the will of the world summons Tagami Yusuke to fulfill the the role of a fifth god, THE DARK GOD. Or something like that,it gets weird after that.
10. Knights & Magic
A Mecha otaku is reincarnated into another world as Ernesti Echevalier (Eru). In this world, exist huge humanoid weapon known as Silhouette Knight. Dreaming of piloting those robots, Eru, with childhood friends, Archid Walter and Adeltrud Walter: together they will aim to become Knight Runner, pilot of Silhoutte Knight
So a Mecha Otaku Prodigy Programmer gets reincarnated into another world that has magic and giant robots hmm lets add jet boosters and four more arms, tcch not enough lets give it a Oni face straight out of hell. and thus Ikaruga was born.
Luckily its getting an anime adaptation sometime this year, here’s to hoping that other novels get picked up adapted sometime soon.
Oh yeah since this question is normally raised, Web novels are hosted online and are free to read while Light novels are Novels that are put up for sale by their authors so they are not free, nevertheless we are leaving in the age of internet freedom, so some guy is probably out there translating Light novels out of his pocket for the rest of us read. Its probably illegal though but whose’s complaining?
(conscience: The Authors wallet perhaps)
